Darwin Gabriel Núñez Ribeiro was born on the 24th June 1999 in Artigas, Uruguay.
Nunez started his playing career at Penarol, starting in the youth academy and moving into the first team in 2017. After a tough start (cruciate liagament injury) Nunez was signed by Spanish side Almeria where he scored 16 goals in 30 appearances.
In 2020, Benfica paid a club record fee of 24 million Euros for Darwin on a five year contract. In his second season with the club, Darwin won the Bola de Prata for top goal scorer in the Primeira Liga with 26 goals in 28 games. He was also named in the Primeira Liga Team of the Year and awarded the Primeira Liga Player of the Year.
His incredible scoring ability and explosive speed caught the attention of Liverpool Football Club and in 2022, the club reached an agreement with Benfica for a £64 million (plus add-ons) fee for Nunez.
During his first season, Nunez won the Community Shield with the club. In his first 23 games for Liverpool, Núñez had scored 10 goals.
At international level, Nunez was called up to the Uruguayan first team in October 2019 and scored on his debut. After missing the 2021 Copa due to an injury, Nunez represented Uruguay at the 2022 World Cup.
