Francis Henry Lee was born on April 29, 1944 in Westhoughton, in Bolton, Lancashire.

In a distinguished 17-year career he represented Bolton Wanderers, Manchester City and Derby County. A stocky forward, he won League Championship medals with both Manchester City and Derby, and scored more than 200 goals in his career.

In 2010, he was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame.

He was one of the celebrated Man City trio of Bell, Lee and Summerbee who were pivotal in the club's glory years of the late-Sixties and early Seventies.

They won the League Championship in 1968, followed by the FA Cup in 1969 and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1970.

He also holds the record for the most goals in Manchester derbies, scoring 10 goals in all against Manchester United.

He also played 27 times for England. Lee represented England at the 1970 World Cup Finals in Mexico and was the first English player ever to be receive a card in a World Cup.
