Jimmy Case was born on May 18, 1954, in Liverpool, England. After leaving school he served an apprenticeship as an electrician but after impressing for non-league South Liverpool, he signed professional forms at Anfield in May 1973.

On April 26, 1975, the midfielder made his Liverpooldebut in a 3-1 victory at home to QPR. It was the first of 186 appearances for the Reds. 

Case became a key figure in Liverpool’s all-conquering spell in the 1970s, and quickly built up a reputation for having one of the hardest shots in football.

By the end of his first full season as a first teamer at Anfield he’d won a First Division winner’s medal and a UEFA Cup winner’s medal, scoring in the final against FC Bruges in 1976.

During eight years at Liverpool, the tough tackling star won an astonishing four league titles, two European CupsEuropean Cups, a UEFA Cup, a League Cup, and a European Super Cup.

As well as being a hardworking midfielder, Case was also noted for his ability to score spectacular goals. He bagged 23 for the Reds. Case appeared in two FA CupFA Cup Finals as a player, losing on both occasions.

He scored in the 1977 final defeat to Manchester United, and was part of the Brighton side that lost to United after a replay in 1983.

Aside from his time at Liverpool, Case is also best known for successful spells with Brighton and Southampton, where he made 127 and 216 appearances respectively.
