Francesco Totti was born on September 27, 1976, in Rome, Italy. Idolising ex-Roma captain Giuseppe Giannini he took up football at the age of 8, eventually joining his favourite club as a youth teamer in 1989.
Aged 16, the forward made his Roma first team debut on March 28, 1993, against Brescia. Within two years he was a regular in the starting XI.
Representing Italy at all levels from Under-15 upwards, Totti won his first senior cap against Switzerland in 1998.
Totti was superb at Euro 2000, and even though Italy lost to France in the final, he was still named man of the match. The Roma superstar has been crowned Italian Footballer of the Year five times. He was also awarded Serie A Player of the Year in 2000 and 2003.
He won a World Cup winner’s medal with Italy in 2006, playing in all seven matches. He was also selected for the Team of the Tournament squad.
Finishing runners-up in Serie A six times, he did inspire the Giallorossi to the Scudetto title in 2000/01. He’s also won two Coppa Italia’s and two Italian Super Cup crowns.
Totti has spent his entire career with Roma. He is the club’s leading goalscorer and their most-capped Italian player with 58 appearances for his country.
Following his retirement in 2017, Totti was awarded the Player's Career Award and the UEFA President's Award.
