Marco Materazzi was born on August 19th 1973 in Lecce, Italy.
At the beginning of his footballing career, Materazzi played at a number of Italian teams in Serie B and Serie C including Marsala and Perugia. Marco joined Premier League side Everton for one season, where he was sent off three times in in 23 games and scored two goals. After his Premiership spell, Marco returned to Perugia for two seasons.
After impressing at his return to Perugia, Materazzi signed with Inter Milan in 2001 for €10 million.
Between 2001-2011 Materazzi won five Serie A league titles in a row from 2006 to 2010, one Champions League title, one Club World Cup, four Coppa Italia titles, and the Supercoppa Italiana four times.
Materazzi made his debut for Italy in 2001. He earned 41 caps with his national team from his debut until 2008. During this time he played in two World Cup competitions and two European Championships.
Marco played a pivotal role in Italy's 2006 World Cup victory. His goal in the final against France drew the game 1-1, ultimately leading to Italy winning on penalties.
