Anthony William Currie was born on 1 January 1950 in England.

Tony had significant spells for Sheffield United, Leeds United and Queens Park Rangers as well as representing England.

In 1968, Tony joined Sheffield United. The Sheffield United fans, who idolised Currie, nicknamed him 'TC' or 'Top Cat'. He went on to score 54 goals in 313 appearances.

In 1976 Tony moved to Leeds United for £250,000. His skills made him a firm favourite at Leeds, where he played a total of 124 games, scoring 16 goals.

His form helped Leeds reach the League Cup semi–finals in 1978 and 1979, and in the 1978–79 season Leeds finished fifth to qualify for the UEFA Cup.

He made his international debut for England in 1972. He went on to play 17 games, scoring 3 goals.

After announcing his retirement, Tony was appointed Football in the Community co-ordinator at Sheffield United in February 1988.
