Liverpool FC are one of the most successful clubs in the world. They have won 19 league titles, seven FA Cups and seven League Cups and are the most successful British side in Europe, with six European Cups and three UEFA Cups.

Founded in 1892, they started life as Everton Athletic before becoming Liverpool FC, and have played at their home ground of Anfield right from their formation.

The club's modern history begins with the appointment of Bill Shankly in the late fifties. Languishing in the second division, Shankly quickly earned promotion with a remodelled team, before taking his side to the First Division title in 1964. A year later he brought home the FA Cup, before winning the First Division again a year later.

A third First Division title and a first UEFA Cup victory followed in 1972-73, before Shankly handed over the reins to a product of the legendary boot room, Bob Paisley. Building on the foundations of Shankly's work, Paisley proved a phenomenally successful manager. During the nine seasons in which he was manager, Liverpool won 21 trophies, including three European Cups, a UEFA Cup, six League titles and three consecutive League Cups.

Relatively barren patches followed for the Merseysiders, and it wasn't until 2001 when Gerard Houllier led the club to a treble of cup wins that the good times looked like they were returning. More success followed under Rafa Benitez, with the extraordinary Champions League win in 2005, led by the heroic Steven Gerrard.

In June 2019, Jurgen Klopp led the club to their 6th Champions League trophy, beating Tottenham Hotspur in the final.

Liverpool's wait to win the Premier League ended in 2020. A record-breaking season saw them become champions with seven games in hand, more than any other team in Premier League history.
