John Marwood Cleese was born in Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset on October 27th 1939.
In the late 1960s, Cleese co-founded the comedy group Monty Python. The troupe created the iconic comedy sketch show Monty Python's Flying Circus. Along with his other costars, John starred in Monty Python films including Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, and The Meaning of Life.
In the mid-1970s, John Cleese co-wrote the British sitcom Fawlty Towers. John starred as the hotel owner, Basil Fawlty. The critically acclaimed show was rated #1 of the 100 Greatest British Television Programmes by the British Television Programmes.
Cleese has starred in a number of Hollywood shows and films including two James Bond films, three Shrek films and two Harry Potter films.
